Shifting Perspectives

The Summit at One Vanderbilt

The Summit is an experiential observation deck sitting at the top of the largest commercial sky scraper in New York City. Unlike any other observation deck, The Summit challenges perception with a mind-bending reflective infinity room, displaying the New York’s skyline in a way never seen before.

Bluecadet partnered with the Summit to create concepts for a website evocative of the in-person experience without showing any images of the observation deck itself.

Project type: Conceptual web experience

One Vanderbilt

Our goal was to create two immersive concepts which elegantly reinterpret the natural world through ethereal lenses and optical illusion— all while maintaining the flexibility of a CMS driven platform.

One Vanderbilt fades into the natural and the built world.

Reflections

Our first concept plays off of the idea of subverting expectations based on a user’s interaction. By beginning with a simple image and applying a reactive rollage reflective effect to mouse-overs and scrolling, users are unexpectedly immersed in the site, as they would be standing in an infinity room.

Lenses

Our second concept uses materiality and geometry to inspire contrasts and comparisons from a user’s altered perspective towards a single image.
